Abstract Title:

"The Woomera infrasound and Seismic Experiment, September-October 2002."
Abstract:

In September and October 2002, two controlled ground-level atmospheric explosions (27000kg and 5000kg respectively) were carried out at the Woomera test facility in the arid interior of South Australia. In addition to the pre-existing IMS stations, portable seismic and infrasonic instrumentation were deployed to monitor the explosions.

Two portable tri-partitie infrasound stations were deployed roughly 500 km north and east of the proposed shot location, roughly at the expected first thermospheric bounce point. Unusual travel-times and arrival azimuth characterise the signal recorded on the easterly station and are consistent for both shots. It is also significant that the acoustic signal traversed the distance from the source to IMS station IS07 1300 km to the north exhibiting very little azimuthal deviation from the great-circle.

Results from these tests will be summarized, as well as a brief discussion on the proposed processing of data recorded at Geoscience Australia's IMS infrasound stations.
