Abstract Title:
"Dynamic calibration of an Infrasound Data Acquisition System (MB2000 microbarometer and Aubrac digitizer)
" |
Abstract:
Dynamic calibration of a data acquisition channel MB2000 microbarometer and Aubrac digitizer was performed at IS31, Aktyubinsk, Kazakhstan, in October 2002. The calibration of the following steps:
• Static calibration of the station microbarometers, using Keller calibration unit and a mul-timeter;
• Dynamic sine wave calibration by MTU-3 piston unit with a 50-liter damping volume. That calibration covered frequency range of 0.06-0.215 Hz.
• Pressure step calibration, by a small-volume piston with 50- liter damping volume.
The processed data showed that:
1. The system response to the pressure step can be used with essential accuracy for ampli-tude-frequency system response calculation for complete system frequency range. The phase response of the system cannot be calculated directly by this method. The slope of the phase response depends on the selection of the first point, which is difficult to define. As can be seen from the graph, all the phase responses have the slope.
2. The sine wave calibration by MTU-3 unit can provide absolute values of amplitude system response, but only if the calibration unit itself is adjusted properly. However, the frequency range of this unit is limited.
3. The results of both methods of dynamic calibration (step pulse and sine waves) match very good.
4. Unexpected result: both methods of the dynamic calibration clearly showed a faulty micro-barometer, while the standard static calibration did not give any warnings.
A cost-effective and simple calibration system consists of damping chamber and pressure step gen-erator allows to check the microbarometer response'. With a precise input signal the system can provide accurate amplitude-frequency response of an infrasound data acquisition channel. The system can be used with any type of microbarometers.
