Infrasound Array I57US: Piñon Flat Observatory, California

overview

This on-grid array is located in the southern California high desert, near Palm Springs. It is comprised of four 18 m pipe rosettes (H* elements) and four 70 m pipe rosettes (L* elements). The L* elements provide fairly good wind noise reduction, but attenuate signals in the 1 to 5 Hz band significantly. The H* elements provide less wind noise reduction, but don't attenuate signals in the 1 to 5 Hz band. The sensors attached to these rosette wind filters are MB2000 microbarometers. The array geometry is good for characterizing both low frequency and high frequency infrasound signals. Click here for a site table.
